Dreaming of My Tax Refund

April 15th, 2009

It’s tax day and that’s the last day we have to file for 2008. This year I’m getting a tax refund and I’m trying to decide what to spend my refund monies on. I’m pretty sure I’m going to finally invest in a metal golf organizer that will hold my bag of clubs, shoes and just about everything else I need for the game neatly and out of the car trunk.

Another great golf accessory I like is the golf ball sweet spot finder. This is a simple gadget but can really help your putting.

And, of course I’ll need some new golf towels for the year. I like to get a couple of the premium golf towels because they really soak up the sweat. And for the small price that I end up paying, I can get a number of these fine towels so I can always have a clean towel for

Golf Push and Pull Carts

April 11th, 2009

With the emphasis on the environment and doing everything we can to thwart global warming, it’s often the little things that can make a really big difference. For example, switch out an electronic or gas powered golf cart for a golf push or pull cart. These don’t pollute the air and actually get you to expend a few more calories during a pleasant round of golf.

I like the Clicgear push cart personally. It’s not a cheap cart but it’s construction is super sturdy and it has so many amenities I’ll not go into all of them here now. Frankly it would make an awesome Father’s day golf gift for any deserving Dad.

Improving My Swing in Winter

January 10th, 2009

For those of us who live in northern climates, keeping our golf game from deteriorating during the winter months is tough. Many of us have no chance of a round from January through March which not only is a bummer, it hurts our game.

This year is different though. I received an Optishot golf simulator for Christmas and could not be more pleased. This easily hooks up to my laptop and I can swing away and see how I’m doing. The only drawback is that you need an 8′ x 8′ amount of space (more or less) to be secure in swinging your club. This is one of several new golf practice aids and equipment I’m investing in during the new year.

Happy New Year…

January 3rd, 2009

The two times during the year when I really think about all the blessings in my life are Thanksgiving and New Years. While many folks are focused on resolutions for the new year, I prefer to think first of all the things I accomplished by myself and with the help of others over the year that has just been put to bed. Then I think about what I’d like to accomplish for the New Year.

In 2009 we at The Golf Collection are most eager to bring you many new golf products - some great on the course accessories and others just great gifts for golfers. Whichever your interest, we are here to serve you.

Happy 2009.

Hard to Play Golf in this Weather…

November 7th, 2008

The great plains is getting slammed with its first bout of winter. Here in Nebraska the skies are gray and the north wind is blowing and we’ll not get out of the 30’s today. Cold and miserable but at least there is no snow.

Yesterday the news reported that parts of South Dakota received snow falls in excess of 40 inches. Yup you read that right, EXCESS of 40 INCHES. Good golly that’s a whole lot of snow.

You’ve got to wonder if winter starts out this forcefully, where will it end? I guess we’ll have to see. Meanwhile you can bet there isn’t a lot of golf getting played in the upper Plains states this weekend. ;-)

Only the Brits could be this stoic

September 12th, 2008

I kind of wanted to title this post ‘weird golf news’ but I just could not decide.

Apparently a badly burned body was discovered on the Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus which is a well known course that hosted the Open Championship in 2007. Here was the quote that got me:

The death is being treated as suspicious and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

Just a little suspicious - wouldn’t you think? OK there’s the report:

Mr Higgins’ badly burned body was spotted by staff at the 11th tee of the Buddon golf course.

A police spokesman said: “Whilst detectives have spoken to a significant number of witnesses during the investigation so far, they are still keen to speak to anyone who might help officers to piece together the deceased’s movements during Tuesday evening and into the early hours of Wednesday.”

Sure hope it wasn’t spontaneous combustion.

Introducing Your Kids to Golf

September 1st, 2008

Most little kids will love the idea of going out with Dad or Grandpa and playing a round of golf, even though they may not really understand the rules or know how to hit the ball. Your child will only need a club or two to begin. In fact, the best way to learn golf is by mastering one club before moving on to the next.

Taking your child to the driving range is an ideal place to begin teaching them to play golf. Start by instructing him or her on the proper stance, how to hold the club properly and how to swing the club. Children are so flexible, they have no trouble swinging and most are soon hitting the ball with regularity, developing distance as they continue to practice.

Give your children the gift of golf, you’ll be glad you did.

Establishing a Good Rhythm in Putting

July 16th, 2008

Many golfers, especially those new to the game, are either too tentative or not tentative enough when it comes to putting the ball. Inexperienced players tend to want to rush the ball into the hole and move on while more experienced players may tend to over think a putt. In either case, the end result is usually never great.

One great tip that has been preached by golf pros universally is to establish a good rhythm when you’re on the putting green. Where many golfers go wrong is in failing to establish a good rhythm with their putter that allows them to make the proper reads, establish the best line for their putt, and then make a nice even stroke at the ball. Establishing a good rhythm will allow you to go through the putting process easily, and often with better results.

If you’re having trouble pacing yourself, try developing a checklist in your head of what you need to do during a putt and then practice timing it out on the putting green. As you practice this out, the timing will become more natural, and will gradually bring consistency into your putting routine in no time. Your golf game may benefit greatly from a little bit of rhythm.
